ELMS Service Disruption February 27

Access to the university’s Enterprise Learning Management System (ELMS) was disrupted beginning at 12:37 p.m. The disruption has been attributed to a significant outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS), which caused high error rates in various applications hosted in their environment.

As of 4:30 p.m., we have noticed that ELMS-Canvas performance started to recover and continues to progress. Although many customers should now be able to access the service, there may still be some areas of impaired functionality.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and determine how we can work with our service providers to avoid future disruptions. Future updates to the community regarding service availability will be posted at itsc.umd.edu.
