This month's activity:
Duckpin Bowling at Fair Lanes
How to
get there: Drive, walk, or bike. The Fair Lanes bowling alley is on Route 1 near University Boulevard.
How much cash to
bring:Games are $2.19 per person during the week and $3.25 per person on Saturdays and Sundays. Shoe rental costs $2.35.
How much time you
need: About 30-40 minutes per game, depending on how many people are bowling.
Until you get the hang of it, bowling is perhaps one of the most difficult sports to keep accurate score for. When Kathy, Lida, Michael, and I went for our showdown in the alley, we were fortunate enough to have the burden of scoring lifted from us. Our savior was a man named Vernon, who was more then happy to sit there, keep score, give us tips, and give Michael the creeps. Therefor, we were able to concentrate on more important things, such as winning.
During the first game, we all had our share of ups and downs. And after several gutter balls and very few strikes and spares, I emerged victorious. However, this was exactly the wrong thing to do. Lida, who had infintely more bowling practice than anyone else, decided that she would now actually start to bowl for real. She proceeded the thrash all of us quite thoroughly in the next two games. It really wasn't a pretty site.
Next time, I think we will make Lida play with a handicap.
