Award for Innovation in
Teaching with Technology

Call for Nominations


Co-sponsored by the Office of Information Technology and the Office of Undergraduate Studies, this award seeks to recognize innovative uses of technology in the teaching/learning process at the University of Maryland. Past awardees (both individuals and teams) came from a variety of disciplines and addressed very different areas and constituencies.

Nominations are being sought for projects that have been completed, or if it is an ongoing project, has had the majority of the project completed. Self nominations and nominations by others will be accepted. Teams can consist of faculty, staff, or students.

Nominations are due January 5, 2007. Acceptance of nominations will be done electronically.

Nomination packages should consist of (equivalent to 5 page maximum):

  • The person or team being nominated (including campus and email addresses)
  • Responses to the following questions:
    1. What was the educational problem being addressed and in what timeframe?
    2. What was the Teaching with Technology solution or research process?
    3. Who was involved in and affected by the project? (which courses, number of students, partnerships or cross-departmental solutions)
    4. Why is this an innovative use of teaching with technology or a significant study related to teaching with technology? (Show ways in which it reflects noteworthy educational, technical, or process innovation. Also describe how the concept/process can be applied to other courses.)
    5. What was/is the impact of the project? What tools were used to evaluate this impact? (student evaluations, student letters
  • Letter/E-mail of Support from the Department Chair.
  • Letter/E-mail of Support from the Dean. (May be submitted as one letter with Department Chair and Dean co-signatures).
  • Statement agreeing to present at the 2008 Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference.
  • Statement agreeing to participate as a faculty mentor in the Institute for Instructional Technology.
The awards will be $3,000 for individuals or $5,000 for teams. A maximum of 3 nominations will be recognized with an award. The awards will be given in a recognition ceremony during the 2007 Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference. Past awardees have come from various departments and have been both teams and individual award winners.
