SIS resides on an IBM-ES9021 mainframe computer. The primary computer language is CA-IDEAL, a 4th generation language from Computer Associates. Some SAS, COBOL and Assembler are also used. The database used is CA-DATACOM/DB. SISis a fully compliant component of the College Park - On-line Navigation Environment (CP-ONE) and as such: all screens look and behave similarly, movement between screens is simplified, screen and field help with code lookup always exist, student name searching is available, access and functional security are standardized, and many common utilities are used.

SIS communicates and exchanges data as required with LDAP, the Personnel System, Office of Institutional Studies, and other Intra-institutional systems. Student Application Services works with other application groups to assure that this communication and data exchange takes place.
