Emergency Operations Plan - Introduction

|

I. INTRODUCTION

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) details OIT's emergency planning, organization, and response procedures to be used in the event of an emergency. An emergency is an unexpected change from the normal state of operations that may negatively affect OIT's ability to provide services to the university community.  The scope may be a single, focused event, such as a mainframe being down for a day to a large-scale physical disaster, like a tornado striking campus.  The OIT-EOP complements the University Emergency Response Plan (UERP) and is used in conjunction with the UERP to define the information technology response to campus emergencies.

The Vice President/Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO) represents information technology on the Incident Response Team described in the UERP and is the liaison between the Incident Response Team and the management structure stated in this plan.  The VP/CIO is also ultimately responsible for the development, maintenance and execution of the OIT-EOP.  The other principal staff members mentioned in this plan have well defined duties as listed in the Emergency Response Teams and the Emergency Operations Control Center sections.  The Emergency Response Team members are listed in Appendix A.  In the absence of the VP/CIO, the OIT Director On Call (see Appendix B) will fulfill the VP/CIO's responsibilities until the VP/CIO is available to assume his/her duties.

OIT Policy and Planning is the office of record for the OIT-EOP and will be responsible for maintenance of the Plan.
