As a resident student at the university, you are provided with individual
telephone service in your room. You should bring a touchtone telephone
with you. Below are details about the telephone service provided to
you upon check-in:
Telephone Numbers
There will be one university land line in each single, double, and triple bedroom
within the residence halls (and two land lines in each quad bedroom). Telephone
numbers are assigned by room. Therefore, if you move to another room, your telephone
number will change. You will need to update your contact information by visiting
Link2UM or calling
the OIT Student Help Desk at 301.405.1400.
Standard On-Campus Calling Capability
From your university phone, you can make free local calls. You can also receive
calls from anywhere. To make an on-campus call, simply dial the last five digits
of the campus telephone number. Every phone line has voice mail. Roommates should
discuss in advance which person will contribute the phone set to their room’s
set-up. Roommates can begin using university phone services by plugging the
phone set (any analog touch-tone phone with a standard plug and line cord) into
the voice port in the wall jack in their bedroom in order to receive dial tone.
Visit www.connect.umd.edu for information
you and your roommate(s) will need to set up your shared voice mail (single
voice mail log-in or password and single voice mailbox). This same site is used
to register your computer, gaming console, or PDA for access to the campus network.
Optional Off-Campus Calling Capability
Your options for placing and paying for international, long-distance, and toll
calls of any type include your cellular phone, pre-paid calling cards, or a
telephone credit card.
