Intel PROSet V9 Configuration

|

Initial steps before configuring

You must be in an area with umd-secure wireless coverage for this procedure to be successful. An alternate method is available below, which will allow you to configure your connection while in an area without umd-secure wireless coverage.

  1. You can open the PROSet Wireless software two different ways:

    • If you are running in Windows XP in default mode, click on Start, select All Programs, locate Intel PROSet Wireless and open Intel PROSet Wireless.
    • If you are running in Windows XP in Classic mode (screen shot below), click on Start, scroll to Programs, locate Intel PROSet Wireless and open Intel PROSet Wireless.

  2. Select the umd-secure network and click Connect.

  3. The Configure Wireless Settings - umd-secure window opens. Under General Settings, the Profile Name and Wireless Network Name (SSID) should read umd-secure. If these fields are blank or show different names, click Cancel and start over. If these settings are correct click Next.

  4. Set Authentication Protocol to PAP.
Set User Credentials to Prompt each time I connect by selecting it from the drop down box.
For Roaming Identity, enter your e-mail address (e.g., myacct@umd.edu), and then click Next.

  5. Make sure Certificate Issuer reads Any Trusted CA. If it does not, select it from the drop down box.
Click the Specify Server/Certificate Name box.
    For Server/Certificate Name, enter wireless.umd.edu.
Select the Server Name must match exactly button, then click Next.

  6. Click OK, you're done configuring! A login window should pop up momentarily upon completion.

  7. Enter your Directory ID for the User name and your Directory password for Password. Leave the Domain field blank.

  3. For the Network Authentication pulldown, select WPA2 - Enterprise (or WPA - Enterprise).
For the Data Encryption pulldown, select  AES - CCMP (or TKIP).
For the Authentication Type pulldown, select TTLS. This takes you to the TTLS User page.

  4. For the Authentication Protocol pulldown, select PAP.
For the User Credentials pulldown, select Prompt Each time I connect.
