How to Connect your Mac to the Wireless Network

  1. Click on the AirPort icon in the menu bar and select Open Internet Connection...

  2. Click 802.1X on the top bar of icons, or if it is not available, select New 802.1X Connection from the File menu bar.

  3. From the Configuration: pulldown, select Edit Configurations...

  4. Under Description: enter umd-secure.
    You do not need to enter your name and password here.

  5. Under the Wireless Network: pulldown select umd-secure.

  6. Under Authentication: uncheck the LEAP, PEAP, and MD5 boxes.

  7. Select the TTLS Protocol and click Configure...

  8. Select PAP from the TTLS Inner Authentication: pulldown.

  9. Click OK on the TTLS window, which takes you back to the Wireless Network window.

  10. Click OK, which takes you to the 802.1x window.

  11. Click Connect on the 802.1x page.

  12. Enter your Directory ID and password and click OK.

  13. Click Show Certificate and make sure the certificate name is wireless.umd.edu, and that it is a valid certificate. The Issuer should be Thawte Premium Server CA.

  14. Click on the Always trust these certificates box.

  15. Click Continue. If your system appears to be stuck in an 'authenticating' state, manually close this window.

    Your system is now configured to use the umd-secure wireless network.

  16. Select the umd-secure network from the Airport icon on the menu bar.
