Before you begin configuring your wireless adapter for the umd-secure network,
you will need to download Dell's latest software update. This software can
be downloaded directly from this link: Dell
Wireless Software. If for some reason this link does not work, you can
also download updated software here: Dell Wireless Website.

Double click on the setup file you downloaded from the Dell site.

Click Run.

Click Continue.

By default, the software will install in the C:\dell\drivers\R115321
directory. You can change this, but we suggest leaving the default setting
and click OK.

Click Yes,

Click OK.

Click Next.

The install process takes a few minutes, please be patient.

Click Finish to reboot your computer.

After the computer reboots, open the Control Panel by clicking on
Start and choosing Control Panel or if you are using classic
mode, click on Start, scroll to Settings and choose Control
Panel.

Locate the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility and open it.

The Wireless Network Wizard will open – click Next to allow this utility to manage
your wireless adapter.

Click the longest green bar you see located next to umd-secure and
then click Next.

This window explains that you will have to manually input settings in order for the umd-secure
connection to work properly, click Next.

Configure settings in this order: Network name (SSID): umd-secure,
Network authentication: WPA-Enterprise, EAP method: TTLS,
Inner EAP method: PAP. After you have configured these settings,
click on the User Name/Password tab. Enter in your Directory ID for
the Domain\User Name field, and enter your Directory password in
the Password and Confirm password fields.

Next, click on the Client Identity tab and enter your Directory ID username in the
Logon or identity field.

Next, click the Server Identity tab and select Validate server certificate. By default, the Issuer field should read -Any Trusted
CA-. Next, for Server name type in wireless.umd.edu and select the Server name must match exactly. Lastly, click the Options
tab to make sure nothing is selected and click OK.

After clicking OK, the configuration window disappears and you will notice a small bar graph (symbolizes wireless signal strength) in the system
tray (by the computer time) turn green. You will also notice a small computer with a yellow ball moving from side to side to indicate the wireless card is
acquiring an IP address.

Once the yellow ball disappears and two small comma shaped lines appear on the right side of the computer icon, you have acquired an IP address and are
connected to the umd-secure wireless network.
