Question: What is Peer Training?
Answer: Peer Training is a program that was developed by the Office of Information Technology to train students, faculty and staff in various software packages. Classes are taught by students who are trained by staff to teach in the evenings.
Question: I am a student at the University of Maryland. I need computer training. Where can I find this?
Answer: The Peer Training program offers eighteen non-credit software classes. Training is provided for $10.00 per student and most classes are held in the evenings. Also, the Help Desk sells an interactive training CD (for $20.00) which walks you through Microsoft Office 2000 and the Operating System.
Question: How do I sign up for a Peer Training class?
Answer: The Peer Training Registration is easy to use. Just follow the instructions on the page. You will need to know your student ID and PIN number.
How much do Peer Training classes cost?
Answer: University of Maryland students pay only $10.00 per 3-hour non-credit course; faculty and staff pay $20.00 and alumni are charged $25.00.
Question: I didn't understand all the information in the first Peer Training class I took. If I take it a second time will I need to pay again?
Answer: You do not have to pay to take a Peer Training class a second time if you 1) register for the class, 2) come to the class with a previous receipt and 3) take the class within six months of the original date.
Question: Where are the OIT Peer Training classes taught?
Answer: The classes are taught in two different facilities: the Faculty Training Center in the Computer and Space Sciences building, room 4404 and the Windows WAM lab also in the Computer and Space Sciences building, room 3330.
Question: My WAM account is not working properly. Can I still take a Peer Training course
Answer: Yes, as long as you have your Student ID card with you, you can come into the class and use one of our guest account.
Question: I am a faculty member and I would like to take some technology classes. What are my options?
Answer: Faculty have a broad range of classes available. Faculty can take the Institute for Instructional Technology. These course offerings offer a wide range of software instruction along with pedagogical input from Instructional Designers.
