Deb is a part of the Academic Support Instructional Design team. As a member of this group she blends her two professional passions: improving the teaching and learning experience for faculty and students and providing training and instructional support.
The
Institute for Instructional
Technology provides skills training and peer
mentoring to faculty wishing to explore the ways in which technology can
be integrated into their course curricula.
Deb was the original developer of this program and she continues to provide training on PowerPoint, Dreamweaver, HTML and course management tools.
As part of her faculty development work, Deb coordinates the Teaching With Technology Conference which, each spring, celebrates the accomplishments of College Park faculty who are using technology to transform the educational experience. This conference is a collaboration between the Office of Information Technology and the Center for Teaching Excellence and attracts attendees from the University, regional colleges, and members of the K-12 community.
Deb is the lead instructor for the two-credit Undergraduate
Technology Apprentice Program (UTAP) course taught each spring to students
in the College of Chemical and Life Sciences and the College of Arts and Humanities. UTAP graduates then support faculty in their use of
presentation graphics software, in developing web sites, and with
integrating content and tools in online learning environments. Deb is also the lead preceptor for the technology component of the Dietetic Internship Program, a one-year certification program that distinguishes its graduates through their exposure to technological resources and their development of an electronic portfolio that preserves and presents their internship experience in a living, web-based publication.

Times of Deborah Mateik for a more personal view of Deb.
