Audio Recording Information
The University has a goal of adding audio recording capability to all
of its Technology Classrooms. The project got underway during the
summer of 2008 and approximately 140 rooms are ready for the fall 2009
semester. These recording systems include microphones and
mixers that feed audio into the instructor computer where faculty can
use the Audacity software to record.
The links below will provide you with more information.
List of rooms with
installed audio recording capability
The list will be updated as rooms are added. Please note that
Smith School classrooms in Van Munching have a different system where
recording is done in a central master control room. Faculty
wanting to
use the Smith School classrooms should contact Smith IT (3520 VMH).
How to record in a room without
installed audio recording capability
In rooms without installed mics and mixers, you may record audio by
plugging a USB microphone into a USB port on the instructor
computer. If you want to roam around a bit, you can add a USB
extension cable but make sure it is no longer than 16 feet if it's an
"active" cable or 10 feet if it's a normal USB cable. You should
not string multiple USB cables together.
