How To Order Software

Departmental Purchases

  1. Decide on the products you want
  2. Submit an order
  3. Pickup/Delivery of your software

1.  Decide on the products/licenses you want:

List of manufacturers

OIT Software Licensing offers hundreds of products and licenses. Each product listing contains the following information:

  1. The cost of licenses and media.
  2. A brief description of product.
  3. The system requirements needed to run the software.
  4. Important information about the software.
  5. Who is eligible to purchase (faculty, students, campuses).
  6. Links to the manufacturer's website.

If you're having trouble deciding on what to buy and how to buy it, here are some helpful tips:

  • If a license price is listed, that means you are REQUIRED BY LAW to purchase a license for EACH machine you are installing the program on. If you do not order a license, we will ask for proof that you already own one. Failure to purchase a license or provide proof of licensing will result in the cancellation of your order.
  • Only one CD-ROM is needed to install software on multiple machines. Everyone receives the same installation code (except Microsoft software purchased for home use - each CD has a unique code).
  • Maintenance, assurance, and extra CD-ROMs such as resources and documentation are completely optional. Customers are not required to purchase these.
  • If you are a student, please note that many of the software we sell will not be available to you. This is due to the specific rules of our contract with each manufacturer or vendor.
  • Customers must purchase software either for themselves or for another faculty member in their department. Customers cannot purchase products for their students, interns (unless they are salaried), or those not affiliated with the University.
  • Before ordering, please read our Return and Exchange Policy.
  • Most of our software does NOT come with support. This means that in most cases, you may not be able to contact the manufacturer to receive technical support, patches, upgrades, etc. Our office can help you with general problems, however, we are not set up to answer questions specific to the program.

2.  Submit an order:

Most of our orders are submitted through our online ordering system.

If you prefer not to use our online system, you may mail, fax, or drop off an Internal Services Request (ISR) form.

In order to keep proper records, no orders will be taken via telephone, e-mail, or in person, unless prior arrangements are made.

3.  Pick-up/Delivery of your software:

You have two options for receiving your order:

  • Pick-up

When your order is ready, we will call you at the number you submitted on your order. You can pick up your order at our office during business hours. Please try to arrange to pick up your order as soon as possible.

  • Delivery

OIT offers a courier service that permits us to deliver anywhere on the College Park campus. The courier service delivers daily. If you wish for your software to be delivered, choose "UMCP courier" on your Online Order. All efforts will be made to deliver software the same day. A signature is required on delivery of all courier packages. Please enter a shipping address that would best accommodate delivery.

If you are off-campus, you may choose "UPS" as your shipping method. A charge of $7 will be added to your order for up to 5 CD-ROMs. More than 5 CD-ROMs will incur a shipping charge of $12. UPS usually delivers within 2-3 business days from the time we ship the package. Please provide us with your FULL shipping address (no PO Boxes), as UPS will not deliver without the proper room, suite, or floor number.
