What is a License with Assurance?

Microsoft's terminology for a license with maintenance. Assurance allows customers to receive free upgrades less the purchase of a CD-ROM of new software versions until July 31 of every year.

Microsoft Software Assurance expires 7/31/2008. The next expected Software Assurance is 8/1/2008 - 7/31/2011.
