What is the difference between Departmental, Personal, and Work-At-Home purchases?

Departmental Purchases: Faculty and staff of the University of Maryland only. Software must be purchased and installed on machines that are owned or leased by the University. Software must be purchased by the department, not with personal funds. Orders are placed with OIT Software Licensing either online, or with an ISR (faxed or mailed).

Personal Purchases: Faculty and staff f the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) only. Software can be purchased and installed on machines that are owned by the individual. Software must be purchased in person by the individual at the OIT Help Desk or Terrapin Technology Store, and paid for with cash or check. Software may be kept by the individual even after they leave the University. Microsoft Student Select titles are encrypted for TWO INSTALLATIONS only on ONE machine, and they have a special keycode that cannot be replaced if lost or oversubscribed.

Work-At-Home Purchases: Faculty and staff of the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) and University of Maryland University College (UMUC) only. Limited to Microsoft products only. Software can be purchased and installed on machines that are owned by the individual, and must be used for work-related purposes only. Software must be purchased in person by the individual at the OIT Help Desk or Terrapin Technology Store, and paid for with cash or check. In some cases, software is only available for download, and cannot be purchased on CD. Software must be uninstalled by the individual after they leave the University. Each media is encrypted for TWO INSTALLATIONS only on ONE machine, and they have a special keycode that cannot be replaced if lost or oversubscribed.

Student Purchases: Students of the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) and University of Maryland University College (UMUC) only. Software can be purchased and installed on machines that are owned by the individual, and may be used for any purpose. Software must be purchased in person by the individual at the OIT Help Desk or Terrapin Technology Store, and paid for with cash or check (credit card accepted only at the Terrapin Technology Store). Software may be kept by the individual even after they leave the University. Microsoft media is encrypted for TWO INSTALLATIONS only on ONE machine, and they have a special keycode that cannot be replaced if lost or oversubscribed.
