End-to-End Performance testing

OIT has partnered with the MIND Lab in conducting end-to-end performance studies over the Internet2 network. This research endeavor falls into the category of the Internet2 Measurements group and proposes to examine fine grain characteristics of the dynamics of computer networks as it relates to the Internet2 and additionally as it compares to the traditional Internet. This work, titled the “NetCalliper Project”, originated with Ashok Agrawala and group (MIND Lab), who in the past years have conducted many experiments and done significant analysis of data gathered during these experiments. These original studies were done in the current public Internet environment and the data gathered have yielded interesting results.

For more details on this project, please refer to http://www.cs.umd.edu/projects/sdag/netcalliper/. In recent discussions between MIND Lab and Internet2 staff from OIT, it was decided that a further extrapolation of this research effort into the Internet2 network would most likely deliver data that are worth examining and has lead to this joint research initiative between OIT and the MIND Lab.
