Abstract
Information Technology has become a critical aspect of supporting
the University’s mission of education, research, and
service. We rely more and more on computers and networks in
our day-to-day operations. The decreasing cost of workstations
has put computers on almost every desktop. We are putting
more critical and confidential information on-line. The explosive
growth of networking and the Internet has made it easy to
access the information.
As our reliance on IT increases, the need to address security
risks and threats has become paramount. The growing interconnection
of computers (i.e. Internet) makes it easy to gain unauthorized
access to sensitive information. The tools and software for
computer and network exploitation is readily available on
the World Wide Web. A security breach that causes disruption
of our computing, communications, and network system can become
a major disaster.
