Select Turn AirPort Off in AirPort icon dropdown menu
(located on the upper right side of the menu bar).

Launch Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Keychain
Access.

Cleanup: From the login keychain, remove
any umd-* wireless entries.

Cleanup: From the System keychain, remove
any umd-* wireless entries.

From the System Roots keychain, double click on Thawte
Premium Server CA.

Expand the Trust section.
-
From the gray Extensible Authentication (EAP) pulldown,
select Always Trust.
(Note: This step is necessary due to a bug. At some point,
the user will be prompted to accept trust settings for the wireless.umd.edu
certificate. There is a lot of typing that must be done at that point,
and if it’s not completed quickly the EAP authentication will
time out and interfere with the configuration.)

Close certificate window and save changes.

Launch System Preferences > Network.
-
Select Edit Locations from the Location pulldown and
add a UMD Wireless entry.
-
Click the Click the lock to make changes lock picture.
-
Select UMD Wireless from the locations pulldown if not
already selected.
-
Delete Bluetooth, Ethernet, and Firewire devices
so that only Airport is shown.
-
Click the Advanced… button.
-
Cleanup: Click on AirPort tab if not already
selected.
-
Delete any umd networks from the Preferred Networks
list.
-
Click the 802.1X tab.
-
From the Domain: dropdown menu, select User.
-
Cleanup: Delete any umd-* configurations.
-
Add a configuration called umd-ttls-pap.
-
In the User Name: field, enter your Directory
ID.
-
In the Password: field, enter your Directory
password.
-
In the Wireless Network: field, enter umd-secure.
-
In the Authentication: field, deselect everything
except TTLS.

Select TTLS and click the Configure
button.
Pulldown PAP for TTLS Inner Authentication.
Click OK.
Click OK.

Click the Apply button.
-
Select Turn AirPort On in AirPort icon dropdown menu.
-
Select umd-secure from the AirPort icon dropdown menu.
(Note: Due to an apparent OS X 10.5 bug, do not use the System
Preferences > Network, Network Name: pulldown to select your wireless
network. Use the AirPort icon
instead.)
