Domain Name Servers
The domain name servers for the .umd.edu domain are (in no particular order):
- ns1.umd.edu 128.8.74.2
- ns2.umd.edu 128.8.76.2
- noc.umd.edu 128.8.5.2
To request any changes to host names or numbers within the
.umd.edu domain, please send email to
hostmaster@noc.umd.edu
Note: Effective 2/18/2001, off-campus hosts will need to be configured to
use the DNS servers provided by their Internet Service Provider.
NTP Time Servers
The Network Time Protocol (NTP) time servers for the
.umd.edu domain are:
- ns1.umd.edu 128.8.74.2
- ns2.umd.edu 128.8.76.2
NNTP News Server
The name news.umd.edu should be used as the NNTP news
server for the .umd.edu domain.
Mail Servers
There is currently no single email server for the University.
Departments or support units may have their own servers, but
you would have to check with the particular departments to find out
if one exists and what it would be called.
Without a single email server, there is no unified POP or
IMAP servers available. These, too, may be found on particular
departmental machines, and a check with the specific department is
again suggested.
