Welcome to Distributed Computing Services

OIT's Distributed Computing Services (DCS) group is responsible for providing primary support for "Glue," a distributed, general-purpose computing environment that is the foundation upon which the University's Unix/Linux infrastructure is built. From OIT production servers to high performance computing (HPC) clusters to departmental workstations to thin clients, this framework allows DCS to centrally manage more than 750 physical and virtual computers running either the Sun Solaris or Red Hat Linux operating system. Mission-critical applications (for instance, Ares and Testudo), academic and research tools (e.g., TerpConnect and GRACE), HPC packages, productivity suites, shared printing, and network-accessible home directories are just some of the resources that comprise this environment. DCS staff members provide 24x7 support for the underlying hardware, operating system, and overall security (including University Kerberos authentication). They are also available to consult with researchers, developers, and end-users, as well as to assist the OIT Help Desk in answering Unix/Linux-related questions.
