Communication With the Data Warehouse

In order to communicate with the data warehouse you will need several items:

Installation of Oracle SQL*NET

In order for your computer to connect to the server(s) where the data warehouse databases reside, you will need to install Oracle SQL*NET software. For installation of this software, you should work with AEA DataBase Administration and your local support. Please check with your Technology Officer or call the OIT Help Desk, 301-405-1500, for your technical contact for assistance in these areas. Follow the instructions below:
  1. Have query tool already installed on the end user's PC/Mac.
  2. Call Irina Sokolov, AEA Database Administrator, at 301-405-1716 and request installation of SQL*NET on the data warehouse user's PC/Mac.
  3. AEA DataBase Administration staff will visit each site and install SQL*NET and assist with setting up the correct OCE (see instructions below).

Setup of OCE

An Open Catalog Extension file (OCE) is a necessary file that contain logon information to databases. Each BrioQuery application needs to use an OCE file to connect to a database.

Perform the following to set up the desktop's OCE file:

  • Download the OCE file to the desktop:
    1. There are two software versions of the .oce available. Click on the file for the version of the software that you are using and Select Save in the File Download dialog box:
    2. Select the desktop's Open Catalog Extensions directory (default location: C:\Program Files\Brio\BrioQuery\Program\Open Catalog Extensions) as the Save In location in the Save As dialog box. Click on Save.
