terms.
Requests for
the Winter
and Spring 2009 terms are due by
5:00 PM
on September 15, 2008
Faculty who are
interested in utilizing the Teaching Theaters for part of their course
(such as one class meeting time a week instead of all class meeting
times each week) are encouraged to submit a request. Those
requesting a small number of sessions such as three to four times
during
a semester are also encouraged to apply.
Submission
of requests is handled electronically.
Please read
the information below about what should be contained in your request
before
proceeding.
If
you are interested in scheduling your class in the Teaching Theaters in
the a term other than than the one in the CFP, please refer to the
guidelines
on scheduling the Teaching Theaters and submit a request indicating the
appropriate term.
Request
Process Information
Requests should
contain the following information:
1.The name,
course number, meeting time requirements, semester(s) involved, and
approximate
size of the class. If this is not for an entire semester, for what
period
of time. Please indicate how flexible you can be in meeting times.
2.Any special
needs you anticipate (software, support, external resources, etc.).
3.Your campus

4.Some courses
each semester are cut by departments due to funding. We are requesting

it is scheduled for a Teaching Theater. Lack of enrollment during
registration
is not covered by this commitment.
Begin
Submission Process
Support
Faculty using
the Teaching Theaters can expect to have an experienced support person
available. A support program exists to assist faculty in preparing to
use
the room. Extensive support is provided before and during the semester.
Faculty are expected to take part in orientation meetings and meetings
between the other faculty members using the Teaching Theaters.
Feedback
As part of our
on-going evaluation of the Teaching Theaters, we expect feedback from
the
faculty at the end of the semester. Faculty will be asked to prepare a
one page reflection on their experience in the teaching theater at the
end of the semester which will be submitted to the Steering
Committee.
Teaching
Assistants
We strongly
suggest that you have a TA for the course you will be teaching in the
Teaching
Theaters. There is an undergraduate TA program available as a
resource
for you. If you are interested, please contact Spencer Benson at
405-3154.
Your Teaching Assistant will be trained in the use of the facility, as
well as, the basic support for the teaching theater.
Research
We want to
accommodate
diverse faculty needs and will make every effort, within our budget and
resources, to encourage and support faculty who use the room. We are
proud
that the University of Maryland is a leader in this innovative
collaborative
technology. We expect to conduct leading edge research in the use of
technology
to improve the teaching and learning process.
