- The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to
create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword,
matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes
is not freeware, but it is free of charge for non-profit educational users
who make their pages available on the web. A very nice low-end system for
building self-assessments (but not for grading or surveys) is Hot Potatoes.

HTML Editors
- First Page 2000 http://evrsoft.com/1stpage/.
An easy-to-use web page tool called 1st Page 2000. It's free and offers several
levels of expertise from basic to expert. You can create, view, modify, add
pictures, etc. with ease. The colored tags make it easy to identify comments.
It has a spell checker, 450+ javascripts/VBscripts included, full support
for SSI, CGI, Perl, Cold Fusion, and ASP

HTML-Kit, which comes equipped with the "HTML Tidy".
- NoteTab Light, not a WYSIWYG but a powerful text editor with a lot of features
for HTML. It converts whatever text to "correct" HTML (this is not always
the case with FrontPage), makes available from the menu some useful tools
like HTML Tidy, TopStyle CSS, the HTML Reference Library and has built in
a programming language to automate complex tasks. There is a freeware and
two commercial versions at http://www.notetab.com

Cleans up HTML.
- Notespad". It allows you to work with multiple files (makes copy and paste
much easier), is easily customizable (file filters, etc), and does spell checking
with 10 different dictionaries (English, legal, medical, French, Ditch, German,

Text Generator
- Betsie, http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/betsie/ a utility which can generate a text version of a page suitable for
vision-impaired users. Betsy is a Perl script which takes the URL of the subject
site and produces a text version. The form of entry is http://.../cgi-bin/betsie/parser.pl/...[URL]
