Walk-in Web Clinics For Faculty and Staff

Accessibility: it's not just the right thing to do; it's the law

Overview: Upcoming changes to the laws enforcing the Americans With Disabilities Act accessibility requirements will impact our campus by October 1999. These changes will affect web publications, software development, and hardware & software procurement standards. This clinic will review the law and provide information about technologies and programs available on campus to help university staff comply with ADA requirements.

Guest Speaker: Yasmin Reyazuddin spoke on the issues she confronts as an individual with total vision loss, including frustrations created by html coding which does not interact well with adaptive technology. Also, she is in the process of searching for employment, having just graduated, and is unable to access the University site that lists open positions because that site is on a gopher server. Her reader softward is unable to handle gophers. And accessing the phone jobs line is not the solution since she needs to job number and the only place that is listed is on the gopher server.
