Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference
April 24, 2009
University of Maryland, College Park

Jointly sponsored by the Office of Information Technology and the
Center for Teaching Excellence

Join us on Friday, April 24, 2009 for the Third Annual ITL Conference

Learning at the University of Maryland takes place in many locations and within the context of a variety of forums.  Instructors are challenged on a daily basis to find innovative ways of enhancing student learning experiences.  In traditional classrooms, distance, collaborative or independent learning environments, students and faculty explore a variety of techniques and tools meant to improve the overall academic experience.  The Innovations in Teaching and Learning (ITL) Conference showcases and celebrates the creativity and dedication of University instructors who have demonstrated excellence in their teaching endeavors.

This year's conference features 21 presentations and panels on topics ranging from student response systems, to transforming student learning, game-based learning and simulations to enhancing the student writing experience, wikis, cross-cultural learning, and more. In addition, a poster session will give participants an opportunity to interact in a more personal setting with instructors who are incorporating podcasts, clickers, and other student engagement strategies into their teaching.

This year's conference will also feature two keynote speakers: Julie Little, who is the Interim Director of the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative, and will be talking about ELI's Top Teaching and Learning Challenges project in the morning plenary session; and Randall Bass, Executive Director and Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning Initiatives and of Georgetown University's Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS), whose luncheon keynote will explore Capturing the Visible Evidence of Invisible Learning.

If you are a fan of Twitter, you can start following ITL_UMD now or while you are at the conference. In addition, the University of Maryland will also be host to the 2009 Maryland Blackboard User's Group (MDBUG) Conference on April 23rd. See the MDBUG website for details about the program and registration.
