PlayFair Poster: Safety in numbers? Dozens fo UM students would disagree. Some University of Maryland students reported paying up to $4,000 to settle copyright infringement cases with an entertainment industry group. Don't be the next one to get caught. Download legally. Let's say you love that first single off your favorite artist's brand new album, and you can't wait to own a copy. So what do you do? You go online, find a "free" version on a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing Web site, and save it to your laptop. As you download it, you feel a twinge of guilt - not all that deep down, you know that what you've just done is not only illegal, but also ethically wrong. After all, you've just stolen from an artist you idolize to save yourself a buck (literally). You try to justify it by thinking, "I'm a starving college student, and he's loaded. Hel'll never miss the pennies I should have paid for this song." Right?
Wrong-- that's just not how to play fair. Click to access all of our PlayFair posters.
