University Applicants Use New System

Prospective undergraduate students experienced a new online Web system for their use in applying for admission this year. The new system, fielded in August, was a complete rewrite from the prior year’s offering and is based on a more modern software and hardware architecture. More importantly, it is easier for the applicant to use and sports additional features, including the ability to upload the application supporting documents (student essays and answers to questions about activities and interests) in a variety of formats. Because there were some performance problems debuting the old system as that year's deadline for applying approached, the new system was monitored closely in the days leading up to this year’s December 1 deadline. The effort in retooling the process paid off as the system performed reliably and quickly, efficiently handling a single day record number of online applicants both the day before and the day of the deadline.
