OIT’s
Software Licensing Office and Terrapin Technology Store are available to help
you purchase computer hardware and software for departmental/institutional use.
They can even help you get larger discounts than you’d be able to receive
when purchasing equipment and software on your own. Software Licensing has established
relationships with many software vendors specifically for campus departments
offering low prices, many below the standard educational discounts, on popular
products for the office. For a list of vendors, software titles, and/or if you
would like to place an order, please visit Software Licensing’s Web site
at www.oit.umd.edu/slic. If you would
like to discuss your computing software needs or need assistance in placing
an order, please call 301.405.2986. Software Licensing is located in Room 3342
of the Computer and Space Sciences Building with office hours from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The
Terrapin Technology Store has established discount programs for purchasing Apple
and Dell computers. The store carries standard models of Apple and Dell’s
most popular laptops for same day pick-up, or staff members can assist departments
in placing special orders to fit their needs. The Terrapin Technology Store
is located on the ground floor, Room 0203, of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union
with operating hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday during the
fall and spring semesters. Please drop by or call the Terrapin Technology Store
at 301.314.7000 to discuss your computing needs with one of our sales assistants
or visit the Web site at www.oit.umd.edu/techstore
to see a list of our popular computers.
Both Software Licensing and the Terrapin Technology Store can accept payments
via departmental purchasing card or FRS transfer. Proceeds from computers purchased
through the Terrapin Technology Store go to support the OIT Student Help Desk
and the Academic Computing for Terps (ACT) Program Repair/Hardware Diagnosis
service. The level of sales at the store also determines the number of free
computers we can offer to Financial Aid students. Buying equipment there is
a win-win — your department saves money and also helps to enhance our
ability to provide quality services to fellow university community members!
