New WAM Lab Macs; Multimedia Development Stations Coming Soon

By Chris Higgins

During the winter term, OIT updated the Mac computers in the WAM computer labs. The former Mac G5s have been replaced with new iMacs. The iMacs still offer students the same software that was previously available in the labs. These new Intel-based Macs run the latest Mac operating system and the latest versions of Apple productivity suites such as iWork and iLife.

Coming soon for students this spring is the addition of four multimedia stations. Designed for both individual and collaborative projects, each station will have two monitors to allow easier editing of video, graphics, and animation projects. These stations will offer multimedia development software such as Adobe’s Creative Suite 3 and Apple’s Final Cut Studio. They will also have other tools for scanning, image and video capture, and output to DVD.

The multimedia stations will be in Nonprint Media Services on the lower level of Hornbake Library. Users should bring their own headsets and storage media (DVDs, CDs, flash drive, etc.). For hours of availability, please check the Nonprint Media hours at www.lib.umd.edu/PUBSERV/hours_all.html#hornbakenp.

For help with the multimedia stations and WAM computers, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 301.405.1500.
