OIT Now Offers Enhanced Podcasts

By Fred Morris

OIT now offers its podcasts in a new enhanced format, in addition to its regular audio format. Enhanced podcasts are available beginning with OIT’s March podcast.

An enhanced podcast contains not only an audio element, but it also contains a video component. Slides, photos of the speakers, and clickable links are part of the enhanced podcast file and are viewable as the podcast proceeds.

OIT’s enhanced podcasts are also now available via a free subscription through the iTunes Store. (If you haven’t downloaded iTunes, our recommended podcast player, you can do so at www.apple.com/itunes. iTunes comes in both Macintosh and Windows versions and is a free download.) There are many ways to locate the podcast listing, but the following is a simple how-to:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Click on the iTunes Store link in the left-hand panel.
  3. Once in the store, type “university of maryland” in the right corner search field and hit “Return” or “Enter” on your keyboard.
  4. The search results will appear with a top and bottom panel. In the top panel, you will see a box titled “Podcasts.” Click the “See all” link in upper right corner of that box.
  5. The podcast will appear in the listing along with the OIT logo.
  6. Click the “Subscribe” button and all unretrieved OIT enhanced podcasts will be downloaded to your computer whenever you open iTunes.

Standard audio podcasts and our new enhanced podcasts are available regularly. Questions and comments about them are welcomed at
oit-podcasts@umd.edu. General information about the OIT podcasts is located at www.oit.umd.edu/podcast.
