You've Heard It All Before

You’ve reached a university colleague’s voice mailbox and simply want to leave a quick message. You’re listening to their personal greeting, a message you’ve heard countless times before, waiting for that elusive beep. Here’s a tip for you. Skip their personal greeting and advance directly to the beep by pressing the number “1” on your telephone keypad.

Here are some other tips to make using university voice mail a breeze.

While listening to a message, press

0 to replay the message only

2 then 3 to replay the header

3 to temporarily suspend playback, press 3 again to resume playback

5 to rewind the message in four-second intervals

8 to slow down playback

9 to speed up playback

Visit the online Voice Mail User Guide at www.oit.umd.edu/nts/brochures/vmail/tips.html for a complete list of voice mail tips and shortcuts. (Note: Telephones in the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building may use different voice mail commands than those listed above. Please call 301.405.4400 for more information.)
