Security Certificates

Question: When visiting some university Web sites, I get messages warning that the site is not a trusted site. What should I do?

Answer: This behavior is due to many secure Web sites on campus using security certificates signed by UMD. For commercial Web sites, the certificates that are used are included with popular Web browsers so users will not get the security messages when visiting those sites. You can prevent them from popping up when visiting university sites, as well. Please visit http://cert.umd.edu/rinstall for directions on installing the UMD Root Certificate in your browser. It’s a one-time installation for your browser that should keep the security warning messages on university sites from appearing.
