OIT Now Offers Three RSS Feeds

The Office of Information Technology is pleased to announce the introduction of three “Really Simple Syndication” (RSS) feeds that can serve to inform campus constituents of system and network alerts, service status information, and service modification notices. RSS is the latest in technology that allows subscribers to choose specific information of interest to them and have it “pushed” their way instead of the “pull” research and search methods of yesteryear. OIT will expand into other topics of interest soon.

What is RSS?
RSS files show headlines and summaries that link to an original article. These files are formatted in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) so that they may be read by a feed reader. Once a feed reader is selected, the articles appear without showing a full Web page and associated ads. RSS feeds must be viewed with an RSS reader (also known as a news aggregator).

What is an RSS Feed?
An RSS feed can be used by a company or university to list changing events. The RSS feed is a news link or blog about a particular subject that leads you to multiple links about that subject.
