Give Your Guests Wireless Internet Access

As members of the university host an array of visitors throughout the school year, OIT has introduced a new service that will give guests the opportunity to access the Internet during their visit. The Guest Wireless Accounts system will allow faculty and staff members to provide visitors with temporary access accounts for the University of Maryland wireless network.

This service allows faculty and staff to generate up to four access accounts that can be active for any specified amount of time up to thirty days. If more than four accounts are required, bulk accounts can be requested. The accounts will have designated names and passwords that are much like the Directory IDs set up for members of the university.

This new system provides many benefits for faculty and staff and is a welcomed addition to the services already provided by OIT. David Eisner, a member of the Computer Aided Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) Electronic Products and Systems Center at the university, praises the usefulness of the accounts saying, “I generated a batch of twenty accounts for our biannual CALCE technical review meeting. We have many visiting engineers from all over the world who need to send e-mail and so forth and this has made our lives much easier.”
