AskIT
Dear askIT,
I run the Windows 98 operating system and
I’ve heard something
about Microsoft retiring it. What do I need to do about this?
--Behind the Times
Dear Behind the Times
Attention all Windows 98 users! If you are a faculty or staff member using
a university computer, the Office of Information Technology invites you
to upgrade your Windows software for only $10. Updating this software
is critical because as of January 14, 2004, Microsoft no longer makes
security updates for Windows 98. This makes your computer susceptible
to viruses and other kinds of technological mischief and you vulnerable
to losing your valuable work, time, and patience with no way to fix your
computer problems. To get the upgrade CD, simply submit an order through
your department to OIT’s Software Licensing Office at www.oit.umd.edu/slic/msea/mea_software.html.
