Who Are You in the New University Directory? yourname@umd.edu

Members of the University community now have a new email address option in the format of <name>@umd.edu. The <name>@umd.edu email address is not associated with a particular email system but instead forwards email to the University email account of the user’s choice. While many are taking advantage of the new shorter option, the use of the <name>@umd.edu email address is optional.

To learn what your <name>@umd.edu email address is, visit http://ldap.umd.edu and select "Search for Your University Directory Entry by UMID/SID & PIN." The results will tell you

  • your official University Directory "name" ID
  • the official email address listed for you in the directory
  • your <name>@umd.edu email address and to what email account it will be forwarded

A sample of what this may look like:

Your LDAP Directory ID is: bobsmith

The email address listed for you is: bob_smith@umail.umd.edu

Messages sent to bobsmith@umd.edu will be forwarded to bob_smith@umail.umd.edu.

Members of the University community who have questions about the new IDs may visit http://www.oit.umd.edu/middleware/ldap or contact the OIT Help Desk at 301.405.1500 or http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/contact/.
