Help Desk Tips

Make sure you have anti-virus software running on your system and that it is up to date. Look in on the university's Virus Notification Program web page (http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/virus) once in awhile for tips on avoiding viruses.

If you need to know the IP address to which you are connected, go to http://noc.net.umd.edu/tools.html and click on "WhoAmI."

Protect your password from others. Change it periodically. The beginning of the school year can be a good time for this.

Standard Voice Mailboxes have 10 minutes of message space. If your Voice Mailbox does not allow callers to leave messages, it may be full ?try deleting some old messages or speak with your DTR (Departmental Telecommunications Representative) about expanding the size of your voice mailbox. There are different fees associated with this service.
