Why is there information about me in both the ARES and LDAP systems?

The databases accessed through the ARES website hold your official information used in the institution's business processes such as payroll. Appropriate parts of the data, such as office address and phone number, are copied to LDAP, an online directory service that then makes this information easily accessible to the university community and the public.
