FYI and University Calendar Connect Using New Web Submittal Form

by Lida Larsen

With a new program written by Enterprise Internet Services (EIS), a unit of the Office of Information Technology, you can fill out one online web form to put your event on the university calendar (http://www.umd.edu/calendar/today) AND pre-schedule the posting of the event on the FYI event notification system (http://www.umd.edu/fyi). The new process will produce information that is more uniformly formatted.

"What I like best is the 'ease of use' with the new FYI notice posting," said Carol Warrington, Peer Training Manager. "In the past I would post all of the Peer Training classes to the university calendar at the beginning of the semester, but then I'd have to carefully time when to send my announcement to FYI and then remember to do it. With the new system, after I do it once the rest is taken care of for me."

David Henry, Associate Director of EIS, said, "It makes perfect sense to integrate the two systems in this way." EIS has responsibility for both the university calendar and FYI systems and will continue to look for ways to enhance both systems to make adding and managing the content easier and to avoid duplication of effort by content providers.

Submission forms are available from both the FYI and university calendar web pages. For FYI, select "FYI Request Form" from http://www.umd.edu/fyi, and for the university calendar, select "Submit an Event" from http://www.umd.edu/calendar.
