Administrative Support
Administrative Applications
- FAR
The Faculty Activity Report (FAR) is completed annually by
all full-time faculty. Information provided by faculty regarding research
output, professional and institutional service, awards, etc. fulfills
campus reporting requirements: the Non-Instructional Workload Survey
and the Consulting Report (or Outside Professional Activity). Log
into FAR.
- MEGS
The Maryland Electronic Graduate System (MEGS) is used mainly by graduate
departments to manage, track, organize, and communicate with graduate
program applicants and students. Any faculty may use the system to
query enrollment and applicant data and generate reports. Click
here for Training Schedule, Access Request Form, Users Guide,
Training Video, etc. Log into MEGS.
- Coeus
An Electronic Research Administration (eRA) System developed by MIT
to manage proposal, award, and subcontract info. Coeus can be used
by faculty to find research opportunities in grants.gov, to create
budgets, and to monitor proposal routing through the approval process.
Access the Coeus Training Schedule and Account Request Form on the
ORAA Web
site.
- Leave Reporting
Every two weeks, faculty are encouraged to "sign-off" on
their leave usage. An electronic system that accurately maintains
a faculty's leave use will assist in determining pension benefits
at the time of retirement. Click
here to access the leave reporting system.
- Profiles
The Profiles system provides data on degrees granted, number of graduates
and undergraduate majors, class size, employee FTE data, budget and
facilities data, and other related reports at the university, college,
or department level. “Drill-down” details are available
to authorized users upon login. For more information, consult the
online
training guide.
Networking and E-mail
- Where does my "@umd.edu" mail get sent?
The @umd.edu address is an alias that is redirected to a mail account
specified by you. To check where mail is sent, go to ARES
and click on "update e-mail address" in the Quick Links
section on the right. After logging in, scroll down to the "Primary
E-mail Address" field. The address displayed there is where any
e-mail sent to your DirectoryID@umd.edu address is forwarded. You
can change or update this information at any time.
- Mail@umd E-mail Account
The university offers a campus-wide mail service that includes virus
scanning, junk mail analysis, and a Web-based interface that allows
you to view and manage your messages from anywhere. The Mail@umd e-mail
service is compatible with most mail clients, including PINE. New
users are granted a 200 MB initial quota. Additional space is granted
upon request.
If you are interested in utilizing the Mail@umd mail service, click
here to activate your mail
account.
- Wireless Network
The university's wireless network is one of the largest in the country
with almost 3,600 access points providing convenient wireless access
in almost all campus buildings, including every academic building
and residence hall as well as the Stamp Student Union and McKeldin
and Hornbake Libraries. OIT currently provides two main wireless networks,
"umd-secure"
and "umd." The "umd-secure" network encrypts all
wireless transmissions using WPA2/WPA technology. The "umd"
network provides general access to the network for both campus users
and guests and requires Web page authentication. Faculty can also
sponsor guest wireless accounts
for up to four visitors.
- Virtual
Private Networking (VPN)
The VPN provides an encrypted connection from a user's machine to
the University of Maryland network through the public Internet. The
VPN allows you to access sites and services from your home PC as if
you were within the university's network. VPN
client software is available for Windows and Mac and can be downloaded
through the OIT Help Desk Web site.
