DUTIES: The Technical Consultant/Web Site Designer will be the lead on a new Web design and development service for the University of Maryland that will take the institution's Web presence to the next level of technology integration, interaction, and creative information dissemination. The successful individual will be asked to devise and apply highly creative ideas to the university's Web presence that will leap the university's Web presence ahead of other implementations. The implementation of this service would include the procurement of a Web site content management engine. Service offerings of this program will include, but not be limited to, Web design, Web development, customization of Web sites, and inclusion of new, innovative functionality not previously used in university Web sites. Reporting to the Office of Information Technology's Director of Communications, the Web Site Designer will act as expert on Web design and development; serve as project leader and work directly with university stakeholders to establish requirements, deliverables, and timelines; work with a variety of university staff members and groups behind the scenes on business operations, top-quality process control, and production execution; and complete projects for digital, Web, and mobile platforms based on university client requirements and the university's guidelines and standards for Web site design.

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates with a Baccalaureate or equivalent in Computer Science, Graphic Design, or related fieled are preferred. Eight years of work experience designing, building, and administering strategic or high volume Web sites for diverse audiences required. At least two of those eight years of experience working as a team leader in a Web environment as a Web application developer, site manager, or technical program manager responsible for setting strategic direction. Experience working with Web site content management systems and implementing security policies are preferred. Expert knowledge of 508 accessibility guidelines and their implementation is desired. Strong skills in creating and managing Web sites/applications, with at least five of those eight years of experience with one or more of the following: HTML, DHTML, XML, XSLT, CSS, JavaScript, .NET, and SQL. Dreamweaver, Cold Fusion, and JavaScript required. Demonstrated experience in project management with the ability to drive results in a complex, multi-site, multi-stakeholder university environment is desirable. Superior knowledge of current Web design trends and techniques, a strong online portfolio displaying user-centered design, and experience with Web database solutions required. The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service attitude, a collaborative approach to work, creative problem solving skills, the desire of continuous learning, the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and talents, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
