DUTIES: The Office of Information Technology at the University of Maryland operates a high-availability Web hosting service containing distributed application servers and front-ends providing a robust, highly scalable, Web presence for hundreds of university Web sites. We are seeking an energetic person to support our Web server environment and provide installation, configuration, and support of applications and their data management requirements. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

• Work with customer to perform detailed design for the technical implementation of client solutions. This includes generation of technical design documentation including selection of application servers, frameworks, and design patterns.
• Review existing architecture and suggest refactoring for performance, robustness, and reusability. Recommend and implement hardware and/or software solutions and upgrades
• Participate in server-wide, cross-team initiatives and grow to be the domain expert.
• Installing, configuring, tuning, maintaining, and monitoring application environments (e.g., Apache, Cold Fusion, J2EE (Tomcat, JBoss or other App Servers) Shibboleth, and PKI services.) Providing second and third tier technical support and provide on-call support as required during non-standard hours.

QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible, applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in an IT related field or an equivalent combination of work experience and education, and have at least four years' full-time experience providing system and/or Web server support. This position will have on call and weekend work. We are also seeking the following qualities and abilities: must have strong organizational skills and work in a detail-oriented manner and 4+ years of server administration experience including knowledge of the Solaris, Linux, and PKI Infrastructure. Windows Server knowledge of is a plus. 4+ years client/server support and troubleshooting; working knowledge of Ethernet cabling and switching; thorough understanding of LAN infrastructure protocols, e.g., DHCP, DNS; Ability to Script using Perl, ColdFusion, C++ Java. Experience in Oracle and MySQL databases is a plus. Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills
