DUTIES: The University of Maryland, College Park is seeking
a candidate to assume primary responsibility for the secure internal and public
external Web sites of the Office of Information Technology Help Desk. The position
will work under the guidance of and report to the Manager of Knowledge Management.
Responsibilities will include leadership of a Web site redesign effort, and
implementation of a modern content management system and KnowledgeBase. Other
duties include documentation, content creation, and research of new technologies,
products, and solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's
degree in Information Sciences, Computer Science or the equivalent. The successful
candidate will have prior experience in a central role in previous Web site
redesign efforts. A minimum of 3-5 years experience with UNIX/Linux, 3-5 years
experience in Web design and development, 2-3 years experience with PERL, JAVA
language knowledge (particularly with Servlets or JSP), ColdFusion, php and
an understanding of networking protocols (HTTP, SMTP, etc.). Excellent written
and oral skills are also required. Knowledge of user interface principles, experience
with Dreamweaver, Photoshop, GIMP, etc. a plus. Experience with content management
and knowledge management and/or elearning tools and architecture, familiarity
with Web usability concepts, ability to take technical issues and concepts and
relate them in non-technical terms, ability to adjust work load, schedule and
attention among multiple projects/tasks, experience with three supported UM
computing platforms (Linux/Solaris, Macintosh, and PC) plus their common Web
browsers are expected. The candidate must be self-motivated, responsible, and
a team player with strong dedication and problem solving skills. The position
will be involved with multiple concurrent projects requiring flexibility and
ease in adjusting to changing priorities. The candidate must be willing to interact
with teammates of varying level of technical skill.
