Graduate Assistant, Enterprise Storage and Backup (12-month)

The Office of Information Technology has an immediate opening for a graduate assistant in the Enterprise Storage and Backup unit of Technical Services and Support stem. The Enterprise Storage and Backup unit provides Storage and Backup support to campus units. This unit is responsible for the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) backup infrastructure which is used by a number of departments to protect their vital data assets.

DUTIES: Assist with development and maintenance of automated scripts for day-to-day support of the enterprise backup and storage environment. Assist the storage and backup staff with TSM customer support, client installs, responding to customer requests through e-mail or Help Desk tickets, and other operational tasks related to backup and storage.

QUALIFICATIONS: Admission into a UMCP graduate program is required, preferably in a scientific or technical field. Experience must include some or all of the following: UNIX and/or Windows operating system administration knowledge, scripting, and programming skills in Perl and standard shells. Experience or knowledge of storage and backup systems is a plus. The graduate assistant (GA) should be willing and able to interact with customers. Ability to communicate clearly, organize effectively, and document work thoroughly is required. Also, must be able to multi-task and demonstrate flexibility to adjust to changing priorities.
